Jayson Tatum Trading Cards
Tatum's card catalogue runs from five separate 2017-18 rookie products, through the Prizm rainbow and a decade of named insert families, out to autographs and his 2024 championship cards. This page is the map — pick the branch you care about and it hands you the reference page for it.
Start with the 2017-18 rookie year
Panini held the NBA licence in 2017-18 and printed Tatum rookies across several brands at once, which is why "Tatum rookie card" is not one card. These five are the products most collectors actually chase, each with its own deep dive:
- 2017-18 Panini Prizm
The chromium flagship. The Silver Prizm is the benchmark card of the whole rookie class, and the base card anchors every rainbow conversation.
- 2017-18 Donruss Optic
The chromium Rated Rookie — same design language as paper Donruss, printed on chrome stock, and it carries the same card number (#198).
- 2017-18 Panini Donruss
The original paper Rated Rookie at #198. If a listing just says "Tatum Rated Rookie #198," the number alone does not tell you whether it is this card or the Optic.
- 2017-18 Panini Select
Three tiers in one product — Concourse, Premier and Courtside — each running its own parallel rainbow, so a Courtside Silver is not a Concourse Silver.
- 2017-18 Panini Hoops
The mass-market, entry-tier rookie. Paper stock rather than chrome, and the usual first real Tatum rookie a new collector owns.
For the brand-by-brand rundown including the products above and the rest of the rookie-year catalogue, see the rookie card checklist. If you want the shorter answer — which one to actually buy, and in what order — start with Jayson Tatum rookie cards: the 2017-18 chase.
Then the parallels
Every chromium product prints the same photo dozens of ways. Prizm alone runs from the base card to Silver, on through unnumbered colour parallels, numbered colours, Gold, and a Black one-of-one at the top — and the split that actually moves price is whether a card is serial-numbered or not. The Prizm parallel guide walks the rainbow tier by tier; the Optic, Select and Hoops parallels are covered inside each set review above.
Named inserts — the other half of the catalogue
Insert sets are where Tatum's most recognisable non-rookie cards live, and they are organised by brand rather than by year:
- Donruss inserts — Franchise Features, My House!, Net Marvels, Complete Players, Craftsmen, plus the rookie-year Rookies and Rookie Kings cards.
- NBA Hoops inserts — Hard Wired, Pure Players, Skyview, Frequent Flyers, and the chromium Premium Stock exclusives such as Sheesh.
- Modern premium inserts — the Downtown, Kaboom and Color Blast families that drive the loudest chases.
Autographs, championship cards, and everything since
Signed Tatum cards are their own market, and the one where authentication matters most — the autographs reference covers on-card versus sticker, the certified tiers, and what to insist on before buying. His 2024 title run produced a distinct collector cut, gathered in 2024 championship cards, alongside the wider Celtics collecting page.

Before you buy, and after
- Is it real? Fakes and reprints are the fastest way to lose money on both sides of the catalogue. Card-side tells are in spotting fake rookie cards and reprints; signature-side tells are in spotting fake autographs.
- What is it worth? Identify the exact card first — product, tier, parallel — because the same photo spans an enormous range. That process is laid out in what is a Jayson Tatum card worth, which ends where every honest answer ends: at live listings and sold comps, not at a number someone typed into an article.
- Should you grade it? Measure the borders with the card centering tool, then run the submission maths in the grading ROI calculator.
- Keep track of it. Log what you own in the collection value tracker, and read the Tatum collecting guide for how the pieces fit together.
